“Astronaut” bee suit

(6 customer reviews)

£24.00

All-in-one suit for total confidence. The astronaut-style hood is roomy and keeps the bees well away from the face.

SKU: astronaut-bee-suit Category:

Description

Unlike the fencer hood which relies on your head, the astronaut hood is self-supporting. The vertical hoops keep the hood away from the head thereby increasing ventilation and visibility, and the gap between the veil and the side of your face. The front pull-down tab keeps the veil away from the face.

  • available in 100% pre-shrunk machine washable cotton or micro-fibre (olive colour only)
  • detachable throw-back hood
  • fully zippered at the front
  • elasticated waist, cuffs and ankles
  • side zippers to the ankles
  • front strap to adjust the veil’s distance from the face
  • two big pockets and one small with a Velcro closure
  • side chisel pocket
  • double cloth on the knees (cotton only)

Micro-fibre, an option on this product, is a lightweight man made fabric that is soft to the touch, robust and breathable. It is therefore extremely comfortable to wear, especially on a warm day. We have also noticed that fewer bees settle on this fabric.

These images are for illustrative purposes only and colours may vary. We will endeavour to supply the requested colour, but in the event of this not being possible, we may substitute another colour in its place.

  1. Teresa Tampsett

This suit is well designed, comfortable to wear and gives great protection. My husband, a budding beekeeper said he felt protected, comfortable was able to move around easily and what\’s more he also impressed his fellow beekeepers with the astronaut design. They all wanted to know where to get one from. It is also extremely good value for money and I would recommend it to all.

  2. Malcolm Langton

At this price, the suit is fantastic value. It is durable, comfortable and easily washed. Why spend double the price with other suppliers?

  3. Andrew Cooper (verified owner)

The Bee Basics ‘Astronaut’ suit provides excellent protection yet is not restrictive. The flip back hood is a very practical feature. It is very comfortable to wear and is good value. Highly recommended.

  4. Daniel Marsh (verified owner)

Fantastic value for money, I spoke with Bee Basic before ordering and was advised on size to order and the fit is great. The material (cotton) is thick and hard wearing and this suit is definitely built to last over a bee keeping career of many years. The hood is well designed and keeps the veil away from the face (and the bees!). My only negative comment is that the hood zip is quite a small gauge and therefore the hood tends to ‘slide’ to hang on one side with the two zip pulls close together rather than being able to unzip it amd throw it back, this means you tend to have the hood up all the time the suit is being worn, its a minor inconvenience as the suit offers complete protection, is comfortable and gives you confidence when handling your bees. Many thanks Bee Basic!

This is a great product. well made, nice feeling fabric and comfortable to wear and i am sure it will offer great protection.
Bee Basics are also helpfull, friendly and good to deal with and delivery was quick.

  6. ALEX MCGREGOR (verified owner)

Great suit, great price, fantastic sales assistance. This suit is just what I wanted. Light breathable material, and very well put together. I particularly like the hood, as its easily adjustable and also large enough so as not to make you feel too closed in, visibility is not obstructed in the slightest, as with some hoods. I think this is the ideal suit for any beeginner (including myself). I phoned prior to buying and was impressed with service, very helpful. Ordered Monday lunch time received next morning, freepost too!!!

Find your size

Size does matter, at least to us. While you might not win any fashion awards, we want you to feel comfortable. Our suits and jackets come in small, medium, large and extra large sizes, and we do have some extra extra large. Beekeepers are not however as conveniently sized.

This clothing is intended to last. It needs to be right. If in doubt, go large. Remember to allow for the clothes you are wearing, particularly in winter. Baggy is good. Don’t be afraid of offending your bees. They will not recognise or respect style. Should the chosen size prove wrong, we will happily exchange for another size. Personal callers, by prior arrangement, can try before they buy.

The suits and jackets are generously cut with back pleats. The suits are also long in the body. You might be pleasantly surprised! Made to measure can be arranged, at additional cost.
